A K-9 Town, USA Christmas

Omar never believes me when I tell him how much K-9 Town, USA needs me. Well, it happened again. More doggie sitting this time. I really didn't care because I got to see Omar's Pack again. In addition, I got to see the abused and lonely canines they had rescued. All of them are happy and healthy. Here's how it started....

Me and Omar had a talk
About Christmas Eve this year
Little did I know at the time
Their plans were already in gear.

Ma, we need your help again

I did know there was something up
I could tell it by that smile
He was hesitating to ask me
If some friends could visit awhile.

They’ll just be here a minute Ma
You’ll get to see them again too
They’re people parents will let them come
If they think it’s given by you.

You know my new friend Baxter
The adorable Basset Hound
Adopted by neighbors Matt and Sara
Who love having him around.

I’m taking him to K-9 Town
See him waiting over there
The others will be here shortly
To be put into your care.

Omar said just stand here and look cute

We’re having a Christmas party
Santa Claus is coming too
The puppies have vowed to be good all day
I don’t know about that, do you.
.
I thought about the party
How Baxter would have much fun
How could I think of spoiling it
Okay Omar Blue you’ve won.

I really did it for Omar
But admit I was thinking too
This might be my chance to get back there
If so, I’d come back and tell you.

I took in some of Omar’s friends
Their people parents suspicious
I gave them each a homemade cake
Which they knew would be delicious.

Again, I went to K-9 Town
Please don’t ask how I did
But as soon as I got to the Christmas Party
I found a place and hid

What a party those canines were having
At K-9 Town, USA
When Santa and Omar finally appeared
With reindeers pulling the sleigh.

Ho, Ho, Ho!

 The puppies were sleeping

No fault of their own

They’d been running and playing all day.

Santa went over
Left each a big treat
And was on his merry way.

Back to the party Santa Claus went
What a way to end his night
With Omar, his pack and their canine friends
He stayed until first light.

When Santa was about to fly off
He took time out to say
“Ho, Ho, Ho! What A Merry Christmas”
Then Santa was on his way.

MERRY CHRISTMAS AND A HAPPY NEW YEAR
FROM OMAR BLUE, HIS PACK
AND THEIR MANY FRIENDS

Omar Blue and the Corgi Capers Detectives

Omar had that look again
The one I know so well
He tried to avoid looking at me
But I knew he wanted to tell.

I decided I’d just be direct
Omar Blue what’s troubling you
But to my surprise no more was needed
Okay Ma I’ll tell you this too.

I received a message from friends of mine
Welsh Corgis Sapphie and Zeph

About strange noises they had heard

From the big house to their left.

Do you think he hears us Zeph. Omar always hears us Sapphie

Those two have a special gift

For finding out what’s true
They’re the Corgi Capers Detectives
They knew what they had to do.

 They visit K-9 Town often

Their people family don’t know

They consider us their second home

They love to come and go.

They know all that we stand for
That’s why they made the call
If animals were suffering in that house
They knew we’d stop it all.

Those two know their stuff

They created a diversion
While we checked out the house
Everyone had left, it was empty
Now as quiet as a mouse.
The abusers are spotted by the detectives

The detectives saw them getting away

They do their jobs so well

They yelled out to me and my mighty pack
The rest I dare not tell.

The abused are now at K-9 Town
In the female Elders’ care
Waiting to celebrate Christmas
And happy we brought them there.

They thanked the Corgi Capers Detectives
Who had worked without a clue
As they left for home heads held real high
They’ll be back for Christmas too.

MERRY CHRISTMAS FROM OMAR BLUE,
HIS PACK AND THE CORGI CAPERS DETECTIVES

A special thanks to author Val Muller who was kind enough to let me borrow the stars of her Corgi Capers series, Sapphie and Zeph. I have to admit Omar and the Pack couldn’t have done this rescue without them. Visit Val’s site, http://corgicapers.wordpress.com/ and learn about Sapphie and Zeph’s next adventure, Deceit on Dorset Drive. Those two really care about their community, as we witnessed today.

K-9 Town and Coco the Brave Pomeranian

Now 14 years old and weighing in at 5 lbs., Coco was brought to his people parents, the Tinsleys, from a shelter when he was 4 years old. It was love at first sight. Immediate bonding. A few years later their beloved Mr. Tinsley passed away, Coco and his people ma Bobbie became even closer as they shared their grief.

Not long ago, Bobbie made plans to go with family on a needed vacation. The hardest part was going to be leaving Coco. Not being able to decide which kennel would be best, she took the word of a friend about a “wonderful place” for boarding dogs.
During his stay, Coco was savagely attacked by another animal.  He had no telling marks, they were hidden because of his hair, but after returning Bobbie noticed he was acting strange. It was days after a trip to the emergency room and her vet, 2 little places that had been mentioned abscessed. Little Coco almost died twice. Bobbie never gave up on her baby boy. After a series of laser treatments which brave little Coco responded well to, he began to heel and feel better. The amazing thing about Coco was he kept up his happy spirit. It was so obvious that he was fighting to live, fighting to be his normal self.
One very early morning Coco was let out to do his business but was in a state of mind like never before. He went wandering. He needed something. Even more than Bobbie had to give. He needed a place where……
All of a sudden, and I’ve already proved this can happen, he was at a place he’d never been before and there were canines all around him. All were welcoming and loving like they had always known him.  He met pack leader Omar Blue first, then all the males and females made a fuss over him. This was just what he needed.
Omar Blue let Coco know that once you get to K-9 Town, USA, it’s your home forever. Coco told them all about his people ma Bobbie and how she would miss him so he couldn’t stay but would return often and that’s just what he’s done. Bobbie has no idea what’s come over him but she’s very happy too.

Here’s another reason for Coco’s new attitude. This is his K-9 Town sweetie, Puffy. The female Elders couldn’t wait to get those two together. Aren’t they just too cute.
As I knew they would, not long after Coco’s first visit to K-9 Town, USA, Omar Blue, Rottweiler Brady, Pit Bull Sammy and Wolf Bennie Ba paid that bad kennel a visit. Major Diggs had the job of holding back the rest of the pack.
Between Omar Blue, the pack and his people ma Bobbie I’d say all of Coco’s worries are over.

We try to be careful where we board our furry friends. I'm so glad the true side (top portion) of my story could have a good ending. Coco will never be completely well again but he's doing much better. Bobbie says "at 14, while a bit slower than 10 years ago, he still thinks he's a puppy." I guess that's pretty good considering what he's been through.

MY FIRST CHILDREN'S BLOG RADIO INTERVIEW

I don't proclaim to know too much, but I told everything I know. That lady had a way of getting it out of me.

Come listen to what I said to author Renee Hand who has received several awards for her CHILDREN'S BOOKS TO IMPROVE LITERACY, and more. Go to her site and find out why she's such a winner, in addition to wanting to help new authors like me @ http://www.reneeahand.com/.

But not yet! Right now, me, me, me, me.

I have a secret. I stayed up late for two nights preparing my "cheat sheet." I had the answers to any question she would ask right in front of me. I was gonna surprise her with my koolness.

Kool or nervous. Don't answer.
When she started on me I was confident, though you probably won't be able to tell by the way I sounded. I could get to any answer in a split second. I was waiting....

Then she asked a question.

I WENT BLANK! The answer wasn't where I put it, and all of a sudden my tripled spaced sentences were clumped into one big mess of words and I hadn't numbered the pages. I had to wing it. OMG!

Well, I winged it and I'm not saying any more. I hope I've aroused your curiousity.  I have to admit it really was fun. I'll get better at this stuff. If Omar Blue hadn't banned me from the K-9 Underground I'd go there for a while. He's so stubborn.

Do feel free to let me know what you think by leaving a comment. Here's the link. Enjoy @ http://www.blogtalkradio.com/storiesfromunknownauthors/2011/10/05/interview-for-omar-blue-and-k-9-town-usa

Days Of Our Lives

This is how it started Saturday
For daughter Joy and me
We were going to Elmcroft of Chesterfield
To keep our seniors company.

Oh what fun we’d have with them
Gonna make it a special day
We had a plan all worked out
Gonna do this our way.

Here’s Omar waiting to go with us

He loves the seniors too
Didn’t want to
But we had to say no
Just too many things to do.
That was okay, he understood
He’d seen us pack the truck
So off he went to K-9 town
A good deal we had struck.

We left too, daughter Joy and I
Off to read my “Omar Blue”
While Joy projected the pages
They’d see the pictures too.

While setting up our “production”
You’ll never guess what we found
Our projector bulb had blown out
And there were no more around.

Oh why did we buy from Craig’s List!
As if neither of us knew
For several hundred dollars
Our projector could have been new.
WE BOTH LAUGHED OUT LOUD

But that was the end of our special treat
What else could we do
We used our displays more effectively
And our bookmarks helped out too.

Then we held our book and shirt giveaway
And oh was I surprised
At the bigger pictures
On the winner’s shirt
She saw it in my eyes.

I said, don’t you think we need to trade
She said, what’s wrong with you
If you touch my shirt just one more time
I'm gonna get mad at you.

I guessed that meant she loved it
See the pretty smile on her face
Those smiles mean more than anything
So glad we found that place.

Now Joy and I are moving on
To Heritage Oaks next week
And as for that projector of ours
Hope it’s only a bulb we seek.

WHAT A FUN DAY WE ALL HAD. ANOTHER WONDERFUL MEMORY.
We hope you’ll take another moment to read what we’re all about at http://newbookjournal.com/2011/09/omar-blue-and-k-9-town-usa-by-o-warfield/

K-9 Town Puppies Meet Demon Hallow

I made Omar Blue stay to eat a home given meal before leaving for K-9 Town. He hadn't been home long but I knew something was brewing. He gets so excited. I kept wishing I could go see but unlike a few times before, nothing happened. It worked out fine though because when Omar came back he was ready to tell this one......

- - - - - - -

The puppies were very happy
Under the big oak tree
They were planning another adventure
Oh my gosh, what could it be.
They had spotted a cave not far away
While running with the pack
They would wait for the Elders
To fall asleep
The plan was to go back.

The cave had been off limits
They were told never go in there
But that was when they were little
So the Elders wouldn’t care.

The only reason we’re waiting
Is because they’ll want to come too
We’re big enough to take care of ourselves
That’s just what we’re gonna do.

So off they went around midnight
Things were quiet as could be
The Elders were surely sleeping
So none of them could see.

They got to the cave and kept running through
Too late they became aware
The biggest demon they’d ever meet
With his pitchfork standing there.
They tried to leave but couldn’t move
This was a bad idea
If only the Elders had been awake
None of them would be here.

It was then that Demon Hallow spoke
His voice carried through the wall
You puppies better go right now
Or I’m gonna eat you all!

They managed to get their feet moving
Faster than ever before
They would never, ever go there again
Can’t even tell what they saw.

Meanwhile back at the demons cave
Omar Blue and his Pack
Were thanking their friend Demon Hallow
For sending the puppies back.

They say all demons are very bad
Omar Blue says that’s not true
If you ever meet up with Demon Hallow
He’ll probably befriend you.

THE K-9 TOWN - SHOW DOG MEETING

Omar had been pondering for days. I knew something was coming. I was ready. I won’t go through the particulars but it ended up with me dog sitting again. The K-9 Town Pack was planning a meeting with the Show Dogs. I was helping again!
Luckily, Friend Joe and family were attending a big Dog Show. They would be showing Casper their very handsome Kuvasz. Our cutie pie Leonberger Scarlett played sick, yes that’s right, played sick, so we were left with her and a long list of “be carefuls.”
Scarlett and Casper, sister and brother by way of same people parents, are both award winning show dogs and are Omar Blue and his pack’s link to the show dog world. Remember the party for the Westminster Show Dogs months ago?
Casper is the leader and he knows what he’s doing. If you’re not familiar with the Kuvasz I can tell you, they are no joke. Originating in Tibet but further developed in Hungary they’re big, bold and fearless and can weigh up to about 100 – 115 lbs. Considering they must have a strong people family that they respect, I say kudos to Joe and whole family for being the alphas and still keeping Casper and Scarlett very happy. If you look close (very close) you see Casper is communicating with the dog behind the fence. “Meeting tonight at K-9 Town, USA.”
Friend Joe doesn't suspect a thing

As soon as her people family left Scarlett went off to K-9 Town to be with her Leonberger family there as planned. (See them on your right.) But she didn’t use the regular route. OMG….OMARRRR!!!

I won't tell if you don't

It was late when the show dogs finally got away but they made it. When the meeting started you could hear a pin drop. Yes, I made it there again. I can't say Omar Blue was "talking," but I can say I understood what he was saying.....
Thank you all for coming
We’ll have some fun tonight
But before we do I need to talk to you
About a war we have to fight.

The abuse that’s going on today
Is no longer considered rare
No way we can let it go on like this
Our siblings in despair.

Tonight we’re going to make a pact
And we’re gonna see it through
Your part will be to get word to us
You know what we can do.

Every dog in K-9 Town
Howled with delight
They would do their job and even more
All committed to this fight.

The dog shows take us far and wide
No reason we can’t see
Now that our eyes are open
To this type of misery.

Omar smiled and looked around
So happy they all were there
Then said to himself as the party began
Abusers beware!

I’M SO PROUD OF ALL OF THEM. AND I HELPED.

Omar Blue, Maxwell, Sahji And The Undercover Sting

We had been working in the yard most of the day; at least one of us was. The other one was sunbathing.

If there’s one thing that Omar Blue loves, it’s laying in the sun. Lazy thing.

After coming in and freshening up, we were relaxing when there was a sound outside that I knew so well. I looked over at Omar. He turned his head the other way, smiled and headed for the door. “I’ll be right back Ma,” he said, in that way we have of communicating.

At that, he went out to meet his friends and I rushed to the window.  I later found out their names were Maxwell and Sahji Banks.

They were on their way to K-9 Town. Omar said they went there often, now that their people parent, Greg, had built them a doggie door. He was good to them and they loved him, which is why they didn’t stay at K-9 Town with their canine family.

Omar Blue and the pack didn’t allow them to come alone because of the dangers they might encounter as they traveled the wilderness.  He would accompany them.

This was my first time seeing Maxwell (left) and Sahji (right) so of course I wanted them to come in. I enticed them with some of Omar’s favorite treats. I think they were playing hard to get.

I found out these two were among those rescued during the Undercover Sting. I’ve written about the Undercover Sting. It was amazing. I was there. Well, for a little while.

Surprisingly, Maxwell and Sahji wanted to talk about it. They wanted me to talk about it.

What else could a writer of “true tales” do? I started telling about that night, has I remembered it, without hesitation……..

THE UNDERCOVER STING
We three were having supper
Omar Blue his dad and me
There was something on my Omar's mind
I'm always able to see.
Omar you may as well tell us
You should get it off your chest
I'm gonna find out anyway
So telling now would be best.

When he looked over at the table
I knew I'd won the bout
He knew I wouldn't be satisfied
So he decided to let it out.

What we heard this time was a big surprise
I would never have foreseen
He said they were going undercover
Him, Diggs and Poodle Sophie Jean.
He was hearing a call from a bad, bad place
Where they board dogs during the day
But then they follow the people home
And kidnap their dogs away.
We can't let this go on Ma
So this is what we're gonna do
Me, Major Diggs and Sophie Jean
Gonna see if this is true.
After that Omar was on his way
I followed because I knew
The place that he was talking about
So I could go there too.
It didn't take me very long
Though my thoughts weren't very clear
When I got there it had happened
They were caged when I came near.

Ma what are you doing here
Why did you follow me
Don't worry Omar I'll get you out
Stand back, I can do it, you'll see.

No, no said Omar and Major Diggs
This is what we had to do
The pack will be here pretty soon
Hurry now, I won't involve you.

I ran quick like a bunny
At least that's what I thought
I heard some noise but didn't look back
It was home now that I sought.

I got home in a jiffy
Omar Blue came in about three
I avoided looking directly at him
But saw how he was looking at me.

He told us what had happened
Though he never tells it all
The only thing I'm still wondering
Is how he heard your call?

I'd been wanting an answer to that question since it happened. It was Maxwell that spoke. He said, "We all concentrated real hard on Omar Blue. We had heard about him and knew he and his followers would come, and they did.

I looked over at Omar. I was so proud of my big boy. He knew he had to get away before I got mushy.

I think Maxwell and Sahji understood that too because the three of them were up at the door saying goodbye before I knew what happened. I laughed to myself.

I watched them go down the road always taken until I could see them no longer.

It was such a pleasure meeting Maxwell and Sahji. I know I'll see them again.

Special thanks to the proprietors of the beautiful Broughton's Country Kennel in Midlothian, VA.  for letting me use their facility to bring you another Omar Blue adventure story.
